“Within our clothing we find our identities, ourselves and to some extent our homes. We inhabit our clothing as we do our skins. Created through the act of skinning and gathering bark from birch trees, the corset is a vessel as well as an entry point into the elemental home, itself forming the matrix of our relationship to the natural world. I see the selection and treatment of the natural body (tree) in service of the human form (corset) as a ritualistic process by which I attempt to gain a deeper understanding into human interactions with nature through the metaphoric inhabitation of this skin.”

“C’est dans nos vêtements que se trouvent notre identité, l’être que nous sommes et, dans une certaine mesure, notre demeure. Nous habitons nos vêtements comme la peau sur notre corps. Le corset, créé à partir de l’écorce de bouleaux, est à la fois un vaisseau et un point d’entrée dans la maison élémentale, elle-même la matrice de notre relation avec le monde naturel. Pour moi, le choix et le traitement d’un corps naturel (l’arbre) mis au service d’une forme humaine (le corset) est un rituel par lequel, en habitant métaphoriquement cette peau, je tente d’acquérir une compréhension plus profonde des interactions entre l’humain et la nature.” Rebekah Miller
