“This banner was initially made to make visible the uncertain future of the Art & Margaret Fry Arena in Dawson City which at the time, was rumoured to have been condemned, putting the fate of our community’s most beloved winter activity into question.
Like the ground beneath the rink the banner letters show signs of melting, they slip and sag a little, not quite what they used to be. What the H.E. Double-Hockey-Sticks was the first in what turned into a series of banners installed at the (still standing) arena entitled (we play on ice, it makes our hearts happy. 2022).” Aubyn O’Grady
“À l’origine, cette bannière a été créée pour jeter la lumière sur l’avenir incertain de l’aréna Art & Margaret Fry de Dawson qui, disait-on à l’époque, était fermé pour de bon, une éventualité qui menaçait la survie de l’activité hivernale favorite de notre collectivité.
Comme le sol sous la patinoire, les lettres de la bannière montrent des signes de fonte : elles glissent et s’affaissent un peu, et ne sont plus tout à fait ce qu’elles étaient. What the H.E. Double-Hockey-Sticks a été la première d’une série de bannières installées depuis à l’aréna (qui, incidemment, est encore ouvert), intitulée We play on ice, it makes our hearts happy, 2022 (Jouer sur la glace nous rend heureux).” Aubyn O’Grady
