“This piece pays homage to the old clan hats that were historically carved by Tlingit people. These hats were typically worn by chiefs, clan leaders, and people of high-ranking status. Hats such as these were usually adorned with crest designs used to show identity as well as the wealth and prestige of the clan. Copper has always been a very significant and valuable metal to Indigenous people and is also a wonderful medium for artistic expression.” Calvin Morberg
“Cette œuvre rend hommage aux anciens chapeaux de clans, autrefois sculptés par les Tlingit et généralement portés par les chefs, les dirigeants de clans et les personnes de haut rang. Souvent en forme de crête et ornés de motifs, ils servaient à identifier les membres du clan et à afficher leur richesse et leur prestige. Le cuivre a toujours été un métal important et précieux pour les peuples autochtones. C’est également un matériau qui se prête merveilleusement bien à l’expression artistique.” Calvin Morberg
