The Friends of the Yukon Permanent Art Collection is a registered charitable organization which was formed in 1979 to act as a support group to the Territorial Art Gallery.
Since the gallery – once located in the Whitehorse Public Library- closed in 1992, the organization has focused on fundraising for the Yukon Permanent Art Collection.
A volunteer organization, it is dependent on members to assist with its many fundraising projects as well as with the development of the collection. Working closely with the Yukon Government, the organization provides direction and an arms length application to the management of this significant collection.
The Friends of the Yukon Permanent Art Collection is of vital importance to the continuing development of the arts in the Yukon through the growth of the Yukon Permanent Art Collection. They are continually looking for work by new artists to review and encourage emerging artists to produce new, exciting pieces for consideration.
The organization meets regularly and is currently reviewing acquisition practices and procedures. However, the group is still considering future acquisitions and encourages artists to contact them to discuss completed works which the artist would like considered for the collection.
